She is not a new artist and her “Drunk in Love” did not register as a Record or Song of the Year contender. But Beyonce will indeed have representation in one of the “Big Four” Grammy races.
At the end of a one-hour primetime CBS special, LL Cool J and NARAS president Neil Portnow confirmed that her self-titled album is up for the Album of the Year prize.
Prior to the announcement, Beyonce had already accumulated enough nods to become the most-nominated female artist in Grammys history. Being in position to win Album of the Year, however, trumps Beyonce’s presence in any other race.
To be decided in time for February’s Grammys broadcast, the Album of the Year race also include Beck’s “Morning Phase,” Ed Sheeran’s “x,” Sam Smith’s “In the Lonely Hour” and Pharrell’s “GIRL.”
