Idina Menzel’s rendition of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” is red hot at the adult contemporary radio format.
According to Mediabase’s rolling airplay chart, Menzel’s cover of the holiday classic, which features Michael Buble, was adult contemporary’s most-played song during the period between November 26 and December 2.
The recipient of 854 spins within that seven day window, it demonstrated a comfortable advantage over Taylor Swift’s #2 “Shake it Off.” That multi-format smash received 747 plays between November 26 and December 2.
The advantage for Menzel’s track is even greater within the context of audience. Its weekly impression count of 5.64 million greatly tops the 3.69 million commanded by Swift’s track.
Further separating itself from the pack with each passing day, Menzel’s “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” is poised to grab the #1 spot on the official Mediabase AC airplay chart. That listing is due Sunday evening.
— While not as successful as the Menzel-Buble rendition, Seth MacFarlane and Sara Bareilles’ cover of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” is also performing well at AC radio. It is currently the format’s 9th-most-played song. The Darius Rucker-Sheryl Crow version, meanwhile, is #24 on the rolling chart.
