Ratings: “Reign” Falls, “The Vampire Diaries” Improves (Updated)

Update: “Reign” and “The Vampire Diaries” fans were cautioned about drawing sweeping conclusions from upticks in the overnight metered market ratings.  Only one group needed to be.

While “Reign” did not rise this week–it actually fell to a 0.3 adults 18-49 rating–Thursday’s “The Vampire Diaries” did enjoy improvement.  It scored a 0.8 adults 18-49 mark.

The 8PM “TVD” airing averaged 1.68 million viewers; “Reign” followed with 1.10 million.

Fans of The CW’s “Reign” and “The Vampire Diaries” are consistently reminded that an improved performance in the overnight metered markets offers no guarantee of corresponding improvement in the adults 18-49 and total viewership metrics.

Those interested in a full assessment of their performances will, therefore, need to wait until those figures emerge.

One can, however, express cautious, reserved happiness over the fact that both shows improved in the overnights this week.

After posting a 0.9 overnight household rating last week, 9PM drama “Reign” scored a 1.0 this week. Lead-in “The Vampire Diaries” garnered a 1.6, which represents a 14% week-over-week gain.
