Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” Claims #1 on Hot 100, Dethrones “Shake it Off”

Fueled by soaring sales, surging airplay and the release of its buzzworthy video, Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” grabs the #1 spot on this week’s Billboard Hot 100.

The tune usurps the throne from Swift’s own “Shake it Off,” which has thus far reigned for four non-consecutive weeks.

“Blank Space” follows “Shake it Off” and “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” to become the singer-songwriter’s third career Hot 100 #1.

Courtesy “Shake it Off” and now “Blank Space,” Swift is the only artist to claim two number one Hot 100 hits in 2014. She also becomes the first female artist to replace herself atop the all-encompassing Billboard listing.

Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” holds at #2 this week, while Swift’s “Shake it Off” slides to #3. Maroon 5’s “Animals” and Tove Lo’s “Habits (Stay High)” complete the top five at #4 and #5, respectively.

Also in the top ten: Hozier’s “Take Me to Church” (#6, +2), Bobby Shmurda’s “Hot Boy” (#7, -1), Jessie J + Ariana Grande + Nicki Minaj’s “Bang Bang” (#8, -3), Sam Smith’s “I’m Not the Only One” (#9, +2) and Nick Jonas’ “Jealous” (#10, +13).
