TV Land Cancels “Hot in Cleveland,” FOX Renews “So You Think You Can Dance”

For the second time in less than a week, a series involving Sean Hayes has been cancelled.

Last Friday, CBS confirmed that it was pulling the plug on “The Millers,” which added Hayes as a regular for its second season. Monday, meanwhile, brings news that “Hot in Cleveland,” the TV Land series he executive produces, will wrap after its current sixth season.

“It’s been an honor to work with Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick and the incomparable Betty White as well as our executive producers Suzanne Martin, Todd Milliner, Sean Hayes and the rest of our exceptional writers, production team and crew,” said the network in its official statement. “The passion and talent they brought to the set each and every week over the past five years has put TV Land on the map as a network dedicated to quality original programming. We will continue to celebrate the show and are looking forward to a fantastic series finale.”

Once a legitimate hit by cable standards, “Hot in Cleveland” has devolved into a little-watched offering. Last Wednesday’s episode drew a paltry 0.14 adults 18-49 rating with 770,000 viewers.

— Monday’s television news was not exclusively of the grim variety. While TV Land pulled the plug on its “Cleveland,” FOX opted to stay in the “So You Think You Can Dance” business. The network renewed the series for a twelfth season, which will air in the summer of 2015.

In an attempt to breathe new life into the series, the season will adhere to a “Stage vs. Street” format.
