By the end of last season, CBS’ “The Millers” was failing to retain even fifty percent of its “The Big Bang Theory” lead-in. Aware of its poor showing in one of television’s most coveted circumstances, many felt the network would ultimately regret renewing the series for a second season.
Those skeptics were proven right.
Now airing out of Monday comedy “2 Broke Girls” and thus no longer protected by “The Big Bang Theory,” CBS’ sophomore comedy is performing particularly poorly. And insofar as that poor performance appears to be hurting CBS’ overall Monday night performance (including that of promising new drama “Scorpion,” which is its lead-out), the value of keeping “The Millers” in the mix has become impossible to locate.
Finally on board with the negativity, CBS decided to cancel its second season comedy. Production will wrap following an episodic taping this Tuesday.
CBS still plans to air this coming Monday’s episode; beyond that, it remains unclear if and when the other completed half hours will make the airwaves.
Airing out of “2BG” (1.9 adults 18-49 rating, 7.55 million viewers), this Monday’s “The Millers” drew a 1.5 with 6.48 million audience members.
