Per one of the most important and visible measures in the music industry, “Shake it Off” is now the biggest hit of Taylor Swift’s career.
The song, which kicked off the record-setting “1989” album campaign, enjoys a fourth (non-consecutive) week atop the Billboard Hot 100. That renders it hotter than lead “Red” single “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,’ which spent three weeks at #1 in 2012.
“Blank Space,” Swift’s sizzling new single, is also on the move. It rises to #13 this week and should have no trouble reaching the top ten next week on the strength of its surging airplay, stellar sales and mammoth video streaming.
Meghan Trainor’s 8-week #1 “All About That Bass” holds in the #2 spot this week, while Maroon 5’s “Animals” rises to a new peak of #3. Tove Lo’s “Habits” dips to #4, while Jessie J + Ariana Grande + Nicki Minaj’s “Bang Bang” remains the #5 overall song.
Bobby Shmurda’s “Hot Boy” climbs to #6 this week, while Ariana Grande & The Weeknd’s “Love Me Harder” flies into the top ten at #7. Owed particular credit for the surge is the launch of the song’s official music video.
Hozier’s “Take Me to Church” (#8), Iggy Azalea’s “Black Widow (featuring Rita Ora)” (#9) and Jeremih’s “Don’t Tell ‘Em (featuring YG)” (#10) close out the top ten.
