When reading this article, keep in mind that Taylor Swift’s new single “Blank Space” is not scheduled to formally impact pop radio until next week.
One certainly would not make that assumption based on its add count.
According to Mediabase, “Blank Space” landed at a whopping 113 monitored pop stations to rank as the week’s most-added track. The monstrous add count, which exceeds last week’s number by a multiple of more than 5, provides the song with the framework needed to continue soaring up the airplay chart.
Through Monday, the follow-up to “Shake it Off” was already #27 on the airplay chart.
Also on the radar for pop programmers this week was Meghan Trainor’s “Lips are Movin,” which garnered support from an additional 36 stations. This week’s second-most-added track, “Lips” is currently #28 on Mediabase’s airplay chart.
Gwen Stefani’s “Baby Don’t Lie” ranked third with 35 adds this week, while Ariana Grande & The Weeknd’s top 15 hit “Love Me Harder” scored another 29 adds this round.
Hozier’s breakthrough “Take Me to Church” followed with 23, which gave it the edge over Iggy Azalea’s “Beg for It (featuring MØ).” That song, which was the week’s sixth-most-added track, was good for 20 adds.
Other hot choices for radio programmers: Mr Probz’ “Waves” (7th-most-added, 17 adds), Jessie J’s “Burnin’ Up (featuring 2 Chainz)” (8th, 14), Sia’s “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile” (9th, 13), Eden xo’s “Too Cool to Dance” (10th, 11) and The Script’s “Superheroes” (10th, 11).
