The iHeartRadio “On the Verge” program does not simply put future hits on the radar. It puts chart toppers on the radar.
Following in the footsteps of Dustin Lynch’s “Where it’s At,” the previous “On the Verge” pick, Sam Hunt’s breakthrough single “Leave the Night On” has become country radio’s most-played song.
And if it can hold off Blake Shelton’s “Neon Light” for one more day, it will receive the official #1 distinction that “Where it’s At” also earned this year.
According to Mediabase, the song commanded a format-best 7,790 spins during the October 25-31 tracking period. That gives it a comfortable edge over Blake Shelton’s “Neon Light,” which received 7,575 spins within that seven day window.
Jason Aldean’s “Burnin’ it Down,” which spent two weeks at #1 on the Mediabase chart, is down to #3 as of Saturday’s rolling chart. Frankie Ballard’s “Sunshine & Whiskey” and Little Big Town’s “Day Drinking” are very close behind in the respective #4 and #5 positions. At least one of them might overtake “Burnin’ it Down” in time for Sunday’s official chart
“Leave the Night On” appears on Sam Hunt’s new album “Montevallo,” which is expected to debut at #3 on the Billboard 200 thanks to sales of 60-65,000.
