Thanks to explosive interest in her new album “1989,” Taylor Swift’s week has been loaded with good news and music industry distinctions.
One distinction she will not claim this week, however, is possessing the most-played song at pop radio.
That honor will instead go to Jessie J + Ariana Grande + Nicki Minaj’s “Bang Bang,” which rises to the top spot on Medibase’s rolling pop radio airplay chart.
The recipient of 15,621 spins during the October 25-31 tracking period, “Bang Bang” rises above Swift’s “Shake it Off.” That song, which spent two, non-consecutive weeks in the number one spot, received 15,360 spins during the aforementioned seven day frame.
While “Bang Bang” suffered a slight week-over-week airplay decline, it is not falling nearly as rapidly as “Shake it Off.” That assures it will be remain #1 when the Mediabase chart goes official Sunday evening.
It does, however, mean “Bang Bang” is vulnerable to a takeover on next week’s chart. Tove Lo’s #3 “Habits (Stay High),” which is rising at a rate of more than 300 spins per day, claimed 14,877 between October 25 and 31. It should have no trouble ascending to #1 next week.
Other top five pop radio songs include Iggy Azalea’s #4 “Black Widow (featuring Rita Ora)” and Meghan Trainor’s #5 “All about That Bass.”
Swift’s “Shake it Off” does, however, remain #1 at Hot AC radio.
