Taylor Swift’s “1989” Sales On Pace for 1.1-1.2M, Could Go Higher Than “Red”

Remember that question about whether Taylor Swift’s new album would move more than one million units in its first week.

That debate is so “1989,” man.

Now a lock to cross the million sales mark in its first week, Swift’s “1989” introduces a new question: can it top the sales mark set by her 2012 release “Red?”

That album, which moved 1.208 million copies in its first week, still stands as the fastest seller since Eminem’s 2002 “The Eminem Show” debuted with 1.322 inaugural frame sales.

According to Hits Daily Double, Swift’s latest album is currently tracking towards an opening week sales bow in the 1.1 million to 1.2 million range. Insofar as that forecast keeps growing, however, there is a legitimate chance it will cross the “Red” sales total.

And even if it falls slightly short, its success in crossing the million mark will cement Swift’s status as the first artist in history to claim three opening sales weeks in excess of 1,000,000.
