With all the attention on the new tracks released from her “1989,” it is easy to forget that Taylor Swift still has a very viable lead single receiving immense airplay at pop radio.
Here is a fact that will not be as easy to ignore: “Shake it Off,” that single, is once again pop’s most-played song.
According to Mediabase, “Shake” returned to the #1 spot for the seven days between October 16 and 22. While its airplay actually declined slightly during that period, its spin count of 17,282 narrowly bests that of Iggy Azalea’s previous #1 “Black Widow (featuring Rita Ora),” which claimed 17,243 spins during that period.
Insofar as both songs are declining–and receiving comparable airplay–the race to #1 on Sunday’s official airplay chart will be a tight one. But as of press time, Swift’s “Shake it Off” is expected to claim that position.
The runner-up to “Black Widow” on last week’s chart, “Shake it Off” spent the previous week in the official #1 position.
“Shake it Off” remains #1 at hot adult contemporary radio and is currently at a high of #4 on the adult contemporary airplay chart. It is #21 at rhythmic radio.
