Taylor Swift’s “Out of the Woods” Tops Sales Chart with 195K

Last week, Taylor Swift appeared at #1 on Billboard’s Digital Songs chart.

She repeats in the #1 position this week, but she does so with a different song.

After claiming the leadership role for her “Shake it Off” last week, Swift now owns the top spot with instant gratification track “Out of the Woods.”

“Woods,” a promotional track released from Swift’s new “1989,” tops the latest digital sales chart with weekly sales of 195,000. The total bests that of “Shake it Off,” which claims the runner-up spot, by 17,000.

Strong enough for first place, the 195,000 total might seem surprisingly light to those who followed the song’s run on iTunes–or the real-time sales forecasting websites. It appears that “Out of the Woods” is the first major release affected by a decision to exclude treat downloads resulting from pre-order purchases as single sales.

Had those pre-buys been included, it is likely “Woods” would have claimed a sales total of more than 300,000 this week.

Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” slips to #3 this week on the strength of 148,000 sales, while Maroon 5’s “Animals” ticks down to #4 despite its improved 117,000 sales total.

Jessie J + Ariana Grande + Nicki Minaj’s “Bang Bang” holds at #5 with 96,000 sales.

Following last week’s jump into the Top 5 (at #4), Tove Lo’s “Habits (Stay High)” slips to #6 with 96,000. Jason DeRulo’s “Trumpets” lands at #7 with 86,000, while Iggy Azalea’s “Black Widow (featuring Rita Ora)” is #8 with 73,000 sales.

Sam Smith’s “I’m Not the Only One” (#9, 73,000) and Jeremih’s “Don’t Tell ‘Em (featuring YG)” (#10, 72,000) claim the final two top ten slots.
