Taylor Swift’s “Welcome to New York” Hits #1 on Sales Chart

It did not get there as quickly as previous instant gratification release “Out of the Woods” did last week, but it did get there.

Shortly after debuting at 10PM ET Monday night, Swift’s “Welcome to New York” reached the top of the iTunes all-genre sales chart.

Boosted by the lethal combination of hefty pre-orders (which provide instant access to the track) and buzz-driven single buys, “New York” breezed past a myriad of hot tracks, including Swift’s own “Shake it Off” and “Woods,” to claim that #1 position.

And now that it has hit #1, it gives Swift a third representative in the iTunes top five. “Shake” is currently #2, while “Woods” is #5.

With Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” temporarily displaced so that it can be repackaged as a track on her full-length “Title” album, the balance of the top five is occupied by Hozier’s “Take Me to Church” (#3) and Maroon 5’s “Animals” (#4).

Earlier, Headline Planet reviewed “Welcome to New York,” which is the opening track on Taylor Swift’s new album “1989.”
