Ratings Update: “The Flash” Wows in Week Two (Updated)

Update 2: Final live+same-day broadcast ratings reveal that the second episode of “The Flash” drew an impressive 1.7 adults 18-49 rating with 4.27 million viewers.

Down only 11% in both the demo and total viewership from last week’s debut performance, the episode demonstrated remarkable retention for any new drama, let alone one with a premiere that was boosted by immense curiosity and aggressive promotion.

Distantly ahead of timeslot competition from FOX and ABC, it led The CW to a rare third place finish among major broadcast networks Tuesday.

The CW followed “The Flash” with “Supernatural” (1.0 rating, 2.13 million viewers).

Update: Per fast national data, Episode two of The CW’s “The Flash” drew a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating with 4.15 million viewers.

Down only slightly from the 1.8 adults 18-49 rating and 4.50 million viewers drawn in last week’s fast nationals and the 1.9 and 4.79 million drawn in the finals, “The Flash” exceeded all realistic expectations. It is quickly solidifying itself as a major player not simply for The CW but for the entirety of broadcast television on Tuesday nights.

Realistically, The CW’s “The Flash” did not have a prayer of matching its premiere ratings in week two.

But as far as the overnight metered markets go, it came far closer than anyone likely expected.

Tuesday’s episode of “The Flash” drew an impressive 3.0 overnight household rating. Down only 12% from last week’s mammoth (by CW standards) 3.4 household rating, the week two performance proves that the premiere did a fine job of captivating curious viewers.

Adults 18-49 and total viewership data will be available by noon. They will be evaluated in the context of the 1.9 and 4.79 million drawn by the series opener.
