For several weeks, Echosmith’s breakthrough hit “Cool Kids” has been flirting with the #10 position on the iTunes sales chart. Whether it was temporarily bumped due to the emergence of new singles or instant gratification releases or sent to the bottom of the chart as part of an album restructuring, it always came back to the #11-15 range.
Unfortunately, it also had a nasty tendency of hitting a brick wall when it tried to reach #10.
As of 10:15PM ET Monday, it has finally broken through that wall. It has finally claimed that #10 position.
Due to face an imminent threat from Taylor Swift’s debuting “Out of the Woods,” the multi-format hit can at least enjoy a few hours in the limelight–and on the front page of the iTunes retail store. And insofar as Bethany Mota’s #3 “Need You Right Now” and Slipknot’s #6 “XIX” are due to fall out of the top ten at some point in the near future, “Cool Kids” will have a clear path back to the top ten in the event that it does temporarily get bounced.
Not simply a top ten seller, “Cool Kids” is comfortably one of the ten most-played songs at both pop and hot adult contemporary radio. Collectively, its levels of airplay, streaming and sales have thrust it into the top twenty of Billboard’s all-encompassing Hot 100.
