Ratings: The CW’s “Reign” Hits Series Low in Viewers (Updated)

Update: While “Reign” avoided a series low in adults 18-49, at least as far as the fast nationals are concerned, it did find a new bottom in the total viewership race.

Thursday’s season premiere drew a 0.4 adults 18-49 rating with 1.05 million viewers. May’s first season finale drew a 0.4 rating with 1.24 million viewers in the final daily ratings report, while the fall 2013 season one premiere drew a 0.8 rating with 1.98 million viewers.

Earlier in the night, The CW offered the season premiere of “The Vampire Diaries” (0.9 adults 18-49 rating, 1.78 million viewers).

When it comes to The CW’s “Reign,” a summer’s worth of absence did not make the heart grow fonder. Thursday’s second season premiere drew a series low overnight rating.

The episode, which focused on characters dealing with an outbreak of the Black Plague in and around the castle, drew a paltry 0.9 overnight household rating.

Down 18% from the 1.1 posted by this past spring’s season one finale, the number trailed the fall 2013 series premiere by a whopping 40%.

While there is no guarantee the show took the same hits in adults 18-49 and total viewership, it is clear interest in the series did not grow during the summer hiatus.

Earlier in the night, “The Vampire Diaries” drew a modest (but far superior to “Reign”) 1.6 overnight household rating for The CW.
