Update: Episode two of FOX’s “Red Band Society” drew a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating with 3.4 million viewers.  Last Wednesday’s premiere drew a stronger 1.3 rating with 4.10 million.

Earlier in the night, FOX aired “Hell’s Kitchen” (1.3 rating, 3.6 million viewers).

========

While Wednesday’s “Red Band Society” did not completely crumble in the face of increased timeslot competition, it did endure a fall from last week’s disappointing premiere number.

Red Band Society ratings dip for episode two

Airing against ABC’s “Modern Family”/”black-ish,” CBS’ “Survivor”/”Big Brother” and NBC’s “Law & Order: SVU,” Wednesday’s “Red Band” drew a 2.6 overnight household rating.

In falling 13% week-to-week, “Red Band” held up reasonably well for a serialized freshman drama. But insofar as the premiere rating was short of expectations–and underwhelming in any context–any drop was going to bring “Red Band” further into the danger zone.

The hope for FOX network executives and for the “Red Band” producers is that the 13% decline does not also apply to the show’s adults 18-49 rating. That number will be issued by noon.

FOX led into “Red Band” with “Hell’s Kitchen” (2.7 overnight household rating).
