Because the “iTunes bonus” does not come into play until the live portion of the competition begins, audition songs rarely sell as well on iTunes as those performed in the later rounds.
But the most buzzworthy “The Voice” performances do drive a respectable number purchases, and that is exactly what happened with Taylor Phelan’s “Sweater Weather.”
Performed on Tuesday’s episode of the seventh season NBC reality series, Phelan’s take on The Neighbourhood’s crossover hit is currently up to #42 on the iTunes all-genre single sales chart. That position is better than where James David Carter’s “Nobody Knows,” the best seller from Monday’s show, was at the same time Tuesday evening.
Phelan’s performance also sent the original The Neighbourhood version of “Sweater Weather” back into the Top 100. It was #91 at press time.
No other Tuesday night performance was in the Top 100; the next best sellers were Maiya Sykes’ “Stay With Me” at #125, Joe Kirk’s “Lego House” at #227 and Reagan James’ “Give Me Love” at #256.
