“Breaking Bad” Holds Off “True Detective” at the Emmys

There will never again be another “Breaking Bad.” There will also never again be an edition of “True Detective” starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

Forced to choose between the two acclaimed, irreplaceable drama entries, Emmys voters opted in favor of the former. “Breaking Bad” took home the Emmy for Outstanding Drama, Writing and all acting categories for which it was nominated.

Moira Walley-Beckett won the Writing Emmy for the “Ozymandias” edition of “Breaking Bad,” while Bryan Cranston, Anna Gunn and Aaron Paul won for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama, respectively.

To win his Emmy trophy, Cranston bested “True Detective” stars McConaughey and Harrelson along with “Mad Men” topliner Jon Hamm, “The Newsroom” attraction Jeff Daniels and “House of Cards” force Kevin Spacey.

As far as major awards go, the only “True Detective” victory came in the Outstanding Directing category.

“The Good Wife” star Julianna Margulies, who did not face competition from “Breaking Bad” or “True Detective,” claimed the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Emmy.
