Sia’s “Chandelier” Holds Off “All About That Bass” for #10 at Pop

Make no mistake. Meghan Trainor’s blockbuster “All About That Bass” is due for an imminent leap into the Top 10 at pop radio. When it makes that leap, it will leave songs like Sia’s “Chandelier” in its rear view.

That rise did not, however, happen in time for Sunday’s Mediabase pop radio airplay chart.

While Mediabase will not publish its official chart until Sunday evening, the minor revisions it is due to make will not change the portrait of the top ten. And only Sia’s “Chandelier,” which commanded 8,928 spins between August 17 and August 23, the measured period, is included in that portrait.

Meghan Trainor’s rapidly rising “All About That Bass” put itself within striking distance of the #10 slot, but thanks to a slight deceleration on Friday and Saturday, it came up narrowly short. The song closed out the week with 8,908 plays.

Not quite enough to launch “Bass” into the top ten, the song’s week-over-week spin gain of 2,476 is an irrefutably monstrous mark. It represents the greatest gain for a song that was available last week and the week’s second-largest spin gain overall. Only Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off,” which began receiving airplay Monday and closed the week with a total of 7,787 spins, added more to its weekly total.

Among holdover songs, Katy Perry’s “This is How We Do” had the week’s next-best gain. Its weekly airplay number improved by 1,291 spins.

Ahead of “Bass” by only 20 spins, Sia’s “Chandelier” held a wider advantage in the audience race. It garnered 57.33 million audience impressions at pop radio, which was the format’s tenth-largest audience tally.

Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” received 52.15 million audience impressions at pop radio. It ranked #13 for that metric.
