Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off” Hits Top 20 at Pop, Meghan Trainor #12

Thanks to immense early support from radio programmers, Taylor Swift’s new “Shake it Off” continues charging up the pop radio airplay chart.

According to Mediabase, the song received an additional 1,132 plays Wednesday and now ranks as one of the format’s top twenty songs. Its total of 4,103 spins between Monday and Wednesday represented the 19th-largest play count for the entire seven day period between August 14 and August 20.

Its audience impression count of 29.83 million was pop’s 16th-largest for that window.

In addition to the quick surge at pop, “Shake it Off” is also making waves at hot adult contemporary. It already appears #22 on the Hot AC rolling airplay chart thanks to a spin count of 1,479.

— As Taylor Swift celebrates an eruption into pop’s top 20, Meghan Trainor’s blockbuster “All About That Bass” flirts with entry into the top 10. The song’s 7,931 spins ranked as the 12th-largest for the August 14-20 period.

Each day increasing its weekly spin count by more than 300, the rapidly rising song could reach the top ten within days–possibly even in time for Sunday’s “official” Mediabase chart. Ariana Grande’s #10 “Problem (featuring Iggy Azalea)” and Sia’s #11 “Chandelier” only lead “Bass” by 661 and 544 weekly spins, respectively.

Currently in a state of decline, “Problem” is due to imminently slip out of the top ten. Come Sunday, it will surely be out of the mix.

The fight for the week’s #10 position will thus be a battle between rising tunes “Chandelier” and “All About That Bass.” If both songs maintain their current rate of growth, “All About That Bass” will leapfrog “Chandelier” in time for Sunday’s update.

If even a slight acceleration for the Sia song or slight deceleration for the Trainor comes into play, however, “Chandelier” might be able to hold #10 through the weekend.

Regardless of whether it happens in time for Sunday’s publication, “Bass” will ultimately move past “Chandelier” in its quest to become pop’s number one song.

Also a hit at hot adult contemporary, “Bass” is up to #20 on the format’s airplay chart.
