FX Renews “The Strain” for Season 2; 13 Episodes Planned

On the heels of another strong ratings performance comes news that FX has renewed freshman drama “The Strain” for a thirteen episode second season.

“We’ve never had any doubts about The Strain,” said FX’s John Landgraf. “Working with Guillermo del Toro, Carlton Cuse, and the brilliant cast led by Corey Stoll has been everything we had hoped it would be and more. It is thrilling when you have a show that is a creative and commercial hit, which is a rare accomplishment in this increasingly crowded marketplace. We look forward having it on FX for as long as Carlton, Guillermo and Chuck Hogan need to tell this epic tale.”

Following the premiere, which drew a 1.2 adults 18-49 rating with 2.99 million viewers, every subsequent airing has garnered at least a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating with 2 million viewers.

FX, which says it no longer analyzes ratings until it can account for time-shifted viewing, says the show is averaging a 2.0 rating with 4.5 million viewers on a live+7 basis.

Among adults 18-34, the show attracts 1.2 million live+7 viewers, which FX says is the best for any new cable series this year

With online and video on demand included, total viewership per episode climbs to 11 million.

The show begins its thirteen episode second season in the summer of 2015.
