The follow-up to blockbuster single “Heaven Knows” hopes to truly follow in that one’s footsteps. It hopes to reach the apex of the active rock airplay chart.
As of press time, it is one step closer.
According to Mediabase, The Pretty Reckless’ “Messed Up World” ranked as active rock radio’s 5th-most-played song for the seven days ending August 15. It received 1,369 active rock plays and an audience impression count of 3.29 million during that window.
While Rise Against’s “I Don’t Want to Be Here Anymore” is right on its heels–it scored the same number of spins and a larger audience but fewer Mediabase “chart points” during the measured window–TPR’s song should be able to hold onto the #5 position through Sunday’s update. That “published” update, which measures airplay from Sunday through Saturday each week, provides a song with its “official” Mediabase chart position.
Still gaining airplay at a time when Linkin Park’s #4 “Until it’s Gone” is beginning to fall, “Messed Up World” should have no trouble seizing the more coveted position. As it stands, “Messed Up World” trails “Until it’s Gone” by less than 100 weekly active rock spins.
Going higher is certainly possible, but it will require time to close the airplay gap. Nothing More’s #1 “This is the Time (Ballast),” which is still slowly gaining airplay, scored 2,083 spins during the August 9-15 period.
Godsmack’s #2 “1000hp,” which is beginning to decline, earned 2,008 during that window. Seether’s also-declining “Words as Weapons” received 1,814 active rock spins over the trailing seven days.
