Unfortunately, it did not stay there for long.
Vance Joy’s “Riptide” officially dethrones the Big Data tune on the published edition of Mediabase’s weekly alternative radio chart. It garnered 2,682 plays between August 3 and August 9, which bests the “Dangerous” spin count by 80.
It also won the audience race with 11.76 million impressions compared to 10.98 million for the previous number one.
“Riptide'”s ascent to number one comes just as the song, which is pegged as a potential crossover hit, makes its official impact at Hot Adult Contemporary radio.
Other moves on Mediabase’s official weekly alternative airplay chart:
— Save for the shuffling at the top, the top five mirrors last week’s. Black Keys’ “Fever,” Bleachers’ “I Wanna Get Better” and Dirty Heads’ “My Sweet Summer” stay in their respective #3, #4 and #5 positions.
— Milky Chance’s “Stolen Dance” rises two places to #6. Weezer’s “Back to the Shack” improves two slots to #8.
— Hozier’s “Take Me to Church,” which is also due to land at Hot AC radio this month, jumps three places to #13.
— J Roddy Walston and The Business’ “Take it As it Comes” jumps three spots to #14.
— PRIORY’s “Weekend” blasts six places to the #15 slot.
— After appearing to stall, Tove Lo’s multi-format release “Habits (Stay High)” jumps one spot to reach #19.
— KONGOS’ “I’m Only Joking” jumps four places to #19. Bastille’s “Flaws” jumps seven places to reach the Top 20 at #20.
— Kings of Leon’s “Family Tree” and Meg Myers’ “Desire” enter the Top 30 at #28 and #29, respectively.
— Twin Atlantic’s “Heart and Soul” and Bear Hands’ “Signs” reach the Top 40 at #38 and #39, respectively.
