Shawn Mendes’ Debut EP Pacing for 40-50K Sales; Tom Petty Leads

It got off to an impressive start on iTunes, but Shawn Mendes’ self-titled EP will not reign as the week’s best-selling new album.

That honor will instead belong to Tom Petty and the Heartbreaker’s “Hypnotic Eye,” which Hits Daily Double says is tracking for an opening week total in the 90-100,000 range.

Assuming it holds in that ballpark, the Petty release will score twice as many purchases as the Mendes EP. Hits forecasts that the Vine star’s release will move 40-50,000 units in its first week.

Eric Clapton and Friends’ “The Breeze: An Appreciation of JJ Cale” is currently tracking for a similar bow.

Theory of a Deadman’s “Savages,” one of the week’s other new releases, looks good for a 20-30,000 launch.
