Believing it can follow in the footsteps of “Cruise” and avoid the wave of disappointment that drowned “Drink to That All Night,” Republic is apparently gearing to launch a pop remix of Brantley Gilbert’s “Bottoms Up.”
The remix, which features a brief rap verse from T.I., garnered a “Cool New Music” mention from the Mediabase/All Access industry resource. No impact date has been announced, but the song will presumably go for pop radio adds in the near future.
Featuring a new, hip-hop-leaning drum loop and a muted guitar track, the remix aims to make the #1 country smash accessible to a new audience. TI’s 22-second verse replaces the original guitar solo.
Prior to emergence of the remix, the original version of “Bottoms Up” had garnered adds from a handful of Hot Adult Contemporary stations. The remix is an opportunity to accelerate the crossover process.
Predicting the success is tricky. While Florida Georgia Line scored a monster crossover hit with the Nelly-backed “Cruise” remix and is attracting decent interest in its “This is How We Roll” remix with Jason DeRulo, Jerrod Niemann’s “Drink to That All Night” remix with superstar pop act Pitbull flopped.
