Update: Maddie and Tae’s “Girl in a Country Song” is already up to #45 on Mediabase’s country airplay chart.
It has commanded the media’s attention during a time when superstar country acts Jason Aldean, Florida Georgia Line and Luke Bryan are all promoting new singles.
Over the past seven days, it was also one of country radio’s Top 50 songs.
According to Mediabase, Maddie and Tae’s buzzworthy debut single “Girl in a Country Song” was the 50th-most-played song for the seven days ending July 25. It commanded 448 spins (+233 week-to-week) and an audience of 3.35 million monitored Mediabase impressions over that period.
Already in the Top 50 on Billboard’s version of the country airplay chart (#45) and in the Top 40 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart (#39), the rise to #50 on Mediabase (albeit on its rolling chart) officially confirms the song’s place in the mix.
The goal now is to transition from entering the game to dominating the game. Over the next few months, Maddie and Tae, label Dot Records and countless country radio bloggers and diehards are hoping the song, which criticizes the portrayal of women in “bro country,” will rise to the upper reaches of the aforementioned three charts.
The tracks from the aforementioned superstars have already begun making that transition. Florida Georgia Line’s “Dirt” was the 15th-most-played song over the seven days ending July 25, while Luke Bryan’s “Roller Coaster” and Jason Aldean’s “Burnin’ it Down” were #22 and #30, respectively.
— Seeking to be more than a mere radio hit, “Girl in a Country Song” is off to a strong start on Vevo/YouTube and in a respectable position on iTunes. Despite limiting first day impact by debuting the video on NPR, Maddie and Tae have thus far earned more than 160,000 Vevo-via-YouTube views for the official “Girl in a Country Song” video. The song is, meanwhile, positioned at #87 on iTunes.
