It took more than two months, but alternative radio has finally gotten over its “Fever.”
According to Mediabase, Bleachers’ “I Wanna Get Better” was alternative radio’s most-played song for the seven days ending July 24. The Black Keys’ “Fever,” which had held the #1 spot since May, slipped to #2.
Despite slipping to number two based on spins, “Fever” still commanded the format’s largest audience. Its 2359 spins garnered 11.05 million audience impression. “Get Better” reached 9.57 million via 2399 spins.
The spin advantage, however, puts “I Wanna Get Better” in the top spot on the rolling alternative airplay chart. The song will likely hold that spot through Sunday, which is when Mediabase crowns the format’s “official” number one.
It better hope it does; Big Data’s #3 “Dangerous (featuring Joywave)” and Vance Joy’s #4 “Riptide,” which are both gaining airplay at a far faster rate, will soon challenge for the top spot on the chart.
Other alternative radio movers:
— Milky Chance’s red-hot “Stolen Dance” rises to #10.
— Weezer’s “Back to the Shack,” which debuted this week, is already up to #20. It has thus far scored 642 spins from the format.
— KONGOS’ “I’m Only Joking,” which is the follow-up to the band’s #1 smash “Come With Me Now,” reaches #25.
