Weird Al’s “Mandatory Fun” Wins Album Sales Race with ~104K

“Yes!” is the name of Jason Mraz’ new album. It is also what you should be exclaiming if you were rooting for “Weird Al” Yankovic to win the weekly album sales race.

According to Hits Daily Double, Weird Al’s “Mandatory Fun” convincingly edged Mraz’ “Yes!” to reign as the week’s best-selling new album.

The Hits data, which will differ only slightly from that reported by Billboard Wednesday, says “Mandatory Fun” earned sales of 104,007 in its inaugural week. Mraz’ “Yes!” debuted with a sales total of approximately 83,941.

Assuming the rankings are indeed confirmed by Billboard, “Mandatory Fun” will become the parody veteran’s first number one album. 2011’s “Alpocalypse,” which debuted at number nine, previously reigned as Yankovic’s highest-charting release.

Other top five albums this week included Rise Against’s “Black Market” (~50,284), “Kidz Bop 26” (~45,278) and the “Frozen” soundtrack (~43,387).
