Shawn Mendes’ “Life of the Party” is Best-Selling Debut Since “Home”

It was unable to claim #1 on Billboard’s Digital Songs Chart, but Shawn Mendes’ new “Life of the Party” still achieved something impressive in its first week of release.

With 148,000 first-week paid downloads, the social media star’s single scores the biggest debut week since Phillip Phillips’ “Home” launched in 2012.

Fueled by its positioning as Phillips’ “American Idol” coronation song, that track moved 278,000 copies in its first week of release.

Fifth for the week on Billboard’s Digital Songs chart, the Mendes song landed behind Sam Smith’s #1 “Stay With Me” (211,000), MAGIC!’s #2 “Rude” (210,000), Iggy Azalea’s #3 “Fancy (featuring Charli XCX)” (178,000) and Ariana Grande’s #4 “Problem (featuring Iggy Azalea)” (153,000).

Other top ten singles included Nico and Vinz’ #6 “Am I Wrong” (147,000), Jason DeRulo’s #7 “Wiggle (featuring Snoop Dogg)” (120,000), Maroon 5’s #8 “Maps” (104,000), Disclosure’s #9 “Latch (featuring Sam Smith)” (101,000) and Charli XCX’s #10 “Boom Clap” (99,000).

“Latch” made its debut in the Top 10 this week.
