Ratings Update: “24: Live Another Day” Holds Steady

Update 2: Thanks to a downward adjustment in the final Nielsen report, “24: Live Another Day” repeats its series low number in adults 18-49.

Matching the performance delivered by the past two broadcasts, Monday’s episode drew a 1.4 adults 18-49 rating. Its viewership average clocked in at 5.72 million, which bests the 5.71 million drawn by last week’s episode and the 5.63 million averaged by the previous week’s broadcast.

Update: While it slipped in the overnight metered market ratings, the latest edition of “24: Live Another Day” enjoyed an improved adults 18-49 rating.

Monday’s broadcast drew a 1.5 in the coveted young adults demo, which represented a slight increase from last week’s 1.4. Driven up to the 1.5 average by more favorable rounding, the episode’s two half hour numbers matched last week’s 1.5 and 1.4.

The episode’s viewership average of 5.76 million also represented a slight increase from last week’s performance.

FOX’s “24: Live Another Day” has turned up the action over the past few weeks, but the added intensity is not translating into improved ratings.

After delivering a 4.5 overnight household rating for two consecutive weeks, this Monday’s “24” dipped to a 4.4 in the overnight ratings.

There is no guarantee that the minor fall will manifest in the adults 18-49 and total viewership numbers, but for a series that is going through a strong creative state–and facing virtually no competition–the failure to rebound is surely frustrating.

Undoubtedly disappointing within the context of the series, the numbers nonetheless remain respectable by typical summer broadcast standards. The show’s future will come down to whether FOX can make the cost of a series like “24” work amid those unremarkable–but not irrefutably terrible–viewership numbers.
