While some media outlets are focusing exclusively on the positive, there is a decidedly negative element to how “Think Like a Man Too” fared at the box office this weekend.
The sequel debuted to a weaker opening weekend sum than the original did in 2012.
Enough to edge “22 Jump Street” for the weekend crown, at least based on current estimates, the film’s $30.0 million opening weekend gross actually trails the $33.6 million earned by the original “Think Like a Man” in 2012.
Considering the original actually found much of its audience after opening weekend, the sequel should have been expected to open to a far stronger total. Tracking, however, looked fairly soft, and the latest weekend data looks even softer.
“22 Jump Street” followed with $29.0 million and thus crossed the $100 million threshold in its second weekend. “How to Train Your Dragon 2” claimed third with $25.3 million.
New release “Jersey Boys” disappointed with $13.5 million for fourth place, while “Maleficent” earned $13.0 million for fifth.
