“Think Like a Man Too” Doesn’t Grow at Box Office, “Jersey Boys” Soft

While it managed to win the opening day box office race, “Think Like a Man Too” enjoyed virtually no lift from its predecessor’s box office performance.

The critically panned sequel garnered $12.2 million on Friday, which represented only a small gain from the $12.1 million earned by 2012’s “Think Like a Man.” The sequel was not expected to perform like a blockbuster, but insofar as it was a follow-up to a reasonably successful–and very visible–comedy, its lack of a big gain is undoubtedly disappointing.

That lack of a gain is not, however, as disappointing as the number posted by fellow new release “Jersey Boys.” The Clint Eastwood-directed adaptation opened to a soft $4.6 million to claim fourth place Friday.

Holdovers “22 Jump Street” ($9.4 million, #2) and “How to Train Your Dragon 2” ($7.6 million, #3) both performed better.

“Maleficent” claimed fifth place with $4.0 million.
