A healthy, six-figure sales count helped Jack White’s new “Lazaretto” cruise to a #1 position on the Billboard 200 album sales chart.
According to Billboard, the scored an opening week tally of 138,000 sales. More than double the mark set by Miranda Lambert’s #2 album “Platinum,” which moved 62,000 copies this week, the total was enough to give White his second solo number one in two tries.
40,000 of those purchases were for the vinyl version of the album, which gives White the new record for that medium in the SoundScan era. The previous high mark for a vinyl record came in 1994 when Pearl Jam moved 34,000 vinyl copies of “Vitalogy.”
41,000 purchased the CD version of “Lazaretto.”
Following Lambert’s album was the “Frozen” soundtrack, which scored third place on the strength of 50,000. Brantley Gilbert’s “Just as I Am” claimed fourth with 40,000, while the soundtrack to “The Fault in Our Stars” reached a new peak of #5 on the strength of 38,000 sales
Other albums in the top ten: “NOW 50” (34,000, #6), Coldplay’s “Ghost Stories” (34,000, #7), The Black Keys’ “Turn Blue” (26,000, #8), Michael Jackson’s “Xscape” (25,000, #9) and “Now That’s What I Call Country: Volume 7” (22,000, #10).
