Update: The improved overnight ratings for NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” premiere provided a semi-accurate indication of the show’s adults 18-49 and total viewership performances.
While this year’s opener attracted a larger viewership average of 11.91 million viewers, its adults 18-49 rating slipped to a 3.0.
The 2013 debut, which aired out of “The Voice,” drew a 3.1 rating with 11.22 million viewers.
The series premiere of “The Night Shift,” which aired at 10PM this Tuesday, delivered a 1.6 rating with 7.79 million viewers.

Who needs lead-in support from “The Voice?”
Despite airing in a self-starter role from 8-10PM, this year’s premiere episode of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” delivered stronger overnights than last year’s opener. That episode, which aired from 9-11PM on June 4, 2013, received lead-in support from flagship “The Voice.”
This year’s edition launched to a 7.4 overnight household rating, which represented an improvement of 7% from the 2013 opener’s 6.9 rating. While the improved overnight number makes no guarantee of an improvement in the adults 18-49 and viewership numbers (3.1 with 11.22 million last year), it does suggest that the show is effectively as hot now as it was last year.
“The Night Shift,” which led out of “Got Talent,” drew a 4.8 overnight household rating.
