News broke Thursday that The CW will not be renewing freshman dramas “Star-Crossed” and “The Tomorrow People” for next season.
While the two Monday series had been enjoying weeks of ratings stability, that point of stability was too low for the network. Neither will receive a second season.
The network also axed sophomore drama “The Carrie Diaries.” A low-rated performer throughout the second season, “Carrie” did nothing to justify its unexpected first season renewal.
Not all of The CW’s news was bad.
Freshman drama “The 100,” which is currently the network’s most-watched new series, earned a second season pickup. Also returning next year will be “Hart of Dixie” and “Beauty and the Beast.”
While the “HoD” renewal was expected given the show’s proximity to the syndication threshold, low-rated sophomore drama “Beauty and the Beast” was considered a longshot to receive a third season.
