A shifting landscape at radio and on iTunes propelled several songs to new peaks on the Billboard Hot 100.
And while “Fancy,” by virtue of reaching #7 and giving Iggy Azalea her first Top 10 hit, is justifiably commanding the most attention, it is not the only big mover this week.
— American Authors’ enduring “Best Day of My Life” knocks on the door of the Top 10 with an ascent to #11.
— Already the biggest hit of the band’s career, “Ain’t it Fun” makes an even bigger mark by surging to a new peak of #14. Prior to the launch of “Fun,” Paramore had never gone higher than #24 on the chart.
— Naughty Boy’s “La La La,” which features newly minted superstar Sam Smith on vocals, ascends into the Top 20. Up seven places, it reaches #19 on the weekly Hot 100.
— Calvin Harris’ “Summer” lifts an impressive eighteen places to #26. It becomes Harris’ fifth Top 40 hit as a lead artist.
— After landing in the Top 40 last week, MKTO’s “Classic” cements its presence with a rise to #27.
— Set to only go higher in the wake of the band’s exposure on “The Voice,” Rixton’s “Me & My Broken Heart” enters the Top 40 at #29.
— Pitbull’s “Wild Wild Love (featuring GRL)” enters the Top 40 at #35.
— Katy Perry’s “Birthday,” the week’s biggest airplay gainer, rockets 46 places to #37. It continues Perry’s streak of reaching the Top 40 with every single.
— Nico and Vinz’ breakthrough “Am I Wrong” soars thirty seven places to a new peak of #54. Save for “Birthday,” it was the week’s biggest gainer.
— Riding the controversy over its video, Avril Lavigne’s “Hello Kitty” debuts in the Hot 100 at #75. Of the four singles released from Lavigne’s latest album, only “Here’s to Never Growing Up” went higher (#20).
— “The Voice” contestant Josh Kaufman makes his Hot 100 debut with his cover of “Stay With Me.” The recording, which reached the top 5 on iTunes, hits the chart at #92.
