“West Coast” Becomes Lana Del Rey’s Best Debut, “Happy” Ties “Blurred”

Not nearly as radio-friendly, Lana Del Rey’s “West Coast” will doubtfully rival the longevity of previous single “Summertime Sadness.”

But, per Billboard’s weekly digital sales report, it got off to a stronger start than that single–and any other single released by the singer-songwriter.

Number six on the weekly digital sales chart, Lana’s “West Coast” secured 118,000 paid downloads in its inaugural period of availability. It was the strongest debut-week sales total for a Lana Del Rey single.

The single, which has predictably lost its top ten positioning on the iTunes Sales Chart (it is currently #56), begins the build towards Del Rey’s new album “Ultraviolence.”

— Also on the digital sales chart:  With sales of 274,000, Pharrell’s “Happy” scores a 10th week at number one.  Its reign ties that of Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines,” which featured the “Happy” singer.

The full top ten, according to Billboard:

1) Pharrell – Happy – 274k
2) John Legend – All of Me – 214K
3) Jason DeRulo – Talk Dirty ft. 2 Chainz – 198K
4) Idina Menzel – Let It Go – 158K
5) DJ Snake & Lil Jon – Turn Down for What – 120K
6) Lana Del Rey – West Coast – 118K
7) Katy Perry – Dark Horse ft. Juicy J – 113K
8) Ed Sheeran – Sing – 106K
9) Luke Bryan – Play it Again – 105K
10) Aloe Blacc – The Man – 91K
