Dominant on iTunes and an instant Top 40 hit on pop radio, Ed Sheeran’s “Sing” has justifiably commanded the bulk of the music industry’s attention this week.
But it is not the only song deserving of the genre’s spotlight.
“Birthday” and “I’m Ready,” the respective new releases from Katy Perry and AJR, are also making progress at Top 40 radio.
According to Mediabase, both songs were among the format’s top fifty songs for the trailing seven days. “Birthday,” the fourth single from Perry’s “PRISM,” was the 45th-most-played song. And thanks to some spins at high-profile radio stations, it actually commanded the week’s 39th-largest-audience with 6.243 million estimated impressions.
AJR’s debut “I’m Ready,” which is steadily building momentum of its own, was the 50th-most-spun song for the seven days ending April 11. Because its spins came in lower-profile scenarios, however, it only managed to garner 685,000 impressions.
Other big gainers include 5 Seconds of Summer’s “She Looks So Perfect,” which cruised from #33 to #26, Nico & Vinz’ “Am I Wrong,” which jumped from #41 to #33 and Lady Gaga’s “GUY,” which advanced from #45 to #38.
