Austin Mahone’s “Mmm Yeah,” Rixton’s “Heart” Climb at Radio

A quick glance at the apex of Mediabase’s rolling Top 40 airplay chart would reveal monotony. For the seven days ending April 7, Pharrell’s “Happy” once again reigns as mainstream pop radio’s most-played songs.

Jason DeRulo’s “Talk Dirty (featuring 2 Chainz),” John Legend’s “All of Me,” Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse (featuring Juicy J)” and Lorde’s “Team” then follow to assemble a familiar top five.

The story becomes more interesting, however, as one slowly works his way down the chart.

If he looks at number eight, he will find American Authors’ “Best Day of My Life” at a new peak. If he looks at number ten, he will witness the emergence of Justin Timberlake’s “Not a Bad Thing.”

That trend continues into the teens — Martin Garrix’s “Animals” rises to number twelve, The Chainsmokers’ “#SELFIE” hits thirteen, Naughty Boy’s “La La La (featuring Sam Smith)” rises to fourteen and Paramore’s “Ain’t it Fun” sets a new high mark at #15.

Rixton’s “Me & My Broken Heart” climbs to number sixteen, while Austin Mahone’s “Mmm Yeah (featuring Pitbull),” MKTO’s “Classic” and Tiesto’s “Red Lights” enter the top 20 at 18, 19 and 20, respectively.

Newcomers to the balance of Top 40 positions, meanwhile, include Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy (featuring Charli XCX)” at #34, Nico & Vinz’ “Am I Wrong” at #35 and New Hollow’s “She Ain’t You” at #40.
