“Resurrection” Ratings Fall Despite Lack of “Walking Dead”

Update: You can remove “The Walking Dead,” but you evidently cannot stop the bleed.

Despite airing without “TWD” competition for the first time this season, ABC’s “Resurrection” slipped for the third consecutive week. Sunday’s airing delivered a 2.1 adults 18-49 rating with 7.54 million viewers.

Earlier in the night, ABC offered “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (1.3, 6.03 million), “Once Upon a Time” (2.2, 6.68 million) and “Revenge” (1.3, 4.93 million).

Removing AMC’s “The Walking Dead” from the competitive sphere was not enough to reverse the ratings downtrend of ABC’s new drama “Resurrection.”

In its first week without competition from “The Walking Dead,” albeit also its first week against HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” the ABC freshman slipped to a 5.0 overnight household rating. Down from last week’s 5.5, it represents the series’ third consecutive drop in as many tries.

Like last week, the drop might not notably extend to the adults 18-49 rating. But the fact that there was a drop at all, given that “GoT” surely did not draw an adults 18-49 number on par with the season finale of “The Walking Dead,” is troubling for a show hoping to prove it is stabilizing.

Luckily for the show, it remains the strongest of ABC’s Sunday offerings. The network’s other Sunday performers included “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (3.3), “Once Upon a Time” (4.1) and “Revenge” (3.5).
