“Frozen” Wins Album Sales Race, Shakira Tops Early Forecasts

Another week, another Billboard 200 victory for the “Frozen” soundtrack.

Thanks to a weekly sales count of 161,000, the enduring soundtrack claims its eighth number one on the definitive album sales chart. It now claims the most album sales number ones since Adele’s “21” enjoyed twenty four trips to the summit in 2011 and 2012.

The continued presence of “Frozen” meant that Shakira’s “Shakira.,” the week’s best newcomer, had to settle for second place. On the plus side, its sales total of 84,000 eclipses initial forecasts of a bow in the 75,000 range.

On the downside, it reflects a slight regression from the 89,000 mark posted by 2009’s “She Wolf.”

With 54,000 sales, Johnny Cash’s “Out Among the Stars” takes third on the weekly round-up. Memphis May Fire’s “Unconditional” (27,000) and Pharrell’s “G I R L” (25,000) rank fourth and fifth, respectively.

Also in the top ten: Erica Campbell’s “Help” (23,000, #6), YG’s “My Krazy Life” (23,000, #7), Barry Manilow’s “Night Songs” (22,000, #8), My Chemical Romance’s “May Death Never Stop You” (20,000, #9) and Lorde’s “Pure Heroine” (20,000, #10).
