Cliffhanger Fails to Ignite Ratings Growth for “The Americans”

Hope that buzz over last week’s cliffhanger–and glowing advance reviews of the follow-up–would drive Wednesday’s “The Americans” to improved ratings did not manifest in reality.

This week’s edition of FX’s critically acclaimed but ratings starved drama actually slipped in the key adults 18-49 demographic.

After posting a 0.5 with 1.39 million viewers for last week’s episode, this week’s edition garnered a mere 0.4 with 1.36 million viewers. While it was not the worst showing of the season–that distinction belongs to the 3/12 episode, which drew a 0.4 rating with 1.27 million viewers–it reinforces the notion that “The Americans” simply cannot attract a mass audience.
