Update: ABC’s “Resurrection” opened to an impressive 3.6 adults 18-49 rating with 13.3 million viewers. Sunday’s hottest program on broadcast, it will rank second for the evening only to AMC’s “The Walking Dead.”
Even more impressive is the fact that the series gained viewers from start-to-finish. After kicking off its first half hour with a 3.6 rating and 12.99 million viewers, it improved to a 3.7 with 13.63 million from 9:30-10PM.
Earlier in the evening, “Once Upon a Time” returned to a 2.3 with 7.3 million. “Revenge,” which aired in its new timeslot out of “Resurrection,” disappointed with a 1.9 and 6.5 million.
==========
ABC put one show at the center of its promotion effort during last Sunday’s Academy Awards broadcast.
The effort was successful.
“Resurrection,” the aforementioned show, premiered to blockbuster ratings Sunday night despite going head-to-head with AMC’s “The Walking Dead” and FOX’s multi-network premiere of “Cosmos.”
Leading out of “Once Upon a Time,” the series premiere posted a 4.1 adults 18-49 rating in the top 25 markets with local people meters. The number will likely be different in the more definitive fast national and final broadcast report, but the variation will not be great enough to transform perspectives about the premiere performance.
This was a slam dunk.
Lead-in “Once” opened the night with a 2.4 rating in the top 25 markets. “Revenge,” which aired out of “Resurrection” in its new 10PM timeslot, underwhelmed with a 1.8.
