“300: Rise of an Empire” predictably conquered the weekend box office, but it did so with a considerably weaker performance than its 2007 predecessor.
At just $45.05 million, the film’s weekend tally trailed that of 2007’s “300” by a whopping 36%.
Still, if number one was the goal, then the film was a success.
“Mr. Peabody & Sherman” followed with $32.50 million, while “Non-Stopped” claimed third on the strength of $15.38 million.
“The Lego Movie” ($11.01 million) and “Son of God” ($10.00 million) rounded out the top five.
