Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise” Sets All-Time Country Sales Record

Baby, you a song that made millions want to roll their windows down.

“Cruise,” the breakthrough smash from duo Florida Georgia Line, has officially set the country genre’s all-time digital sales record.

Billboard, which reported the story Monday, notes that the smash reached a total of 6.33 million paid downloads this past week. Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now,” the previous record holder, now claims second place on the strength of 6.27 million digital sales.

After an impressive initial run within the country genre, “Cruise” was remixed with a poppier hook and a contribution from mainstream rapper Nelly. Buzz over the remix, combined with ongoing momentum for the original version, helped the song become a bona fide multi-format sensation.

According to Billboard, remix purchases account for 39.5% of the song’s overall digital sales total.

Following “Cruise” and “Need You Now,” the next strongest country sellers are Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” (5.66 million), The Band Perry’s “If I Die Young” (4.74 million) and Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me” (4.41 million).
