Beyonce’s Album Crushes iTunes Record, Tops 617K in Sales

It was the least traditional, most sudden release of her career. It was also the most successful.

Sources have confirmed that Beyonce’s “Beyonce” moved a whopping 617,213 copies in its first three days on iTunes. In achieving such a massive total, the surprise “visual album” tops the 465K digital copies moved by Taylor Swift’s “Red” to log the store’s biggest opening sales week of all-time.

And the Beyonce album has only been available since Friday.

While Lady Gaga’s “Born this Way” moved a greater overall number of digital copies in its first week, the majority of its online sales came from Amazon, which ran a $0.99 promotion.

With its sales total of more than 617,000, “Beyonce” will easily reign as the number one album on the Billboard 200 chart.
