Bastille’s “Pompeii” Erupts Into Top 40, Gains Mainstream Notice

Following the road paved by songs like Capital Cities’ “Safe & Sound” and The Neighbourhood’s “Sweater Weather,” Bastille’s international hit “Pompeii” is transitioning from an alternative smash into a mainstream American attraction.

The song’s lengthy climb to ubiquity, which included checkpoints at the summits of Alt Nation’s influential “Alt-18” and Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart, has finally reached the heights of the Top 40.

Up ten places from its position on the prior week’s chart, “Pompeii” landed at number thirty eight on the most recent edition of Billboard’s Hot 100.

In conjunction with its growing mainstream awareness, “Pompeii” is also making waves at iTunes. As of press time, the alternative pop song had reached number #21 on the store’s overall single sales chart.

Like “Sweater Weather,” which is presently #16 on iTunes and #18 on the Billboard Hot 100, “Pompeii” has already established itself as a breakthrough. If it manages to reach the top ten–the most logical next checkpoint–it would solidify its standing as a crossover smash.
