“Frozen” definitely made its presence felt at the Friday box office, but the presence was not powerful enough to usurp number one from “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.”
The film, which opened Wednesday, added an additional $26.9 million to its cumulative gross. Now at $53.5 million, that total could reach $100 million by the end of the weekend.
But the success is far larger for “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” which added another $31.3 million to its haul Friday. To date, the blockbuster has raked in $253.2 million at the domestic box office.
“Thor: The Dark World” ($4.5 million), “The Best Man Holiday” ($3.4 million) and “Delivery Man” ($2.7 million) completed the top five. Thanksgiving week releases “Homefront” ($2.6 million) and “Black Nativity” ($1.6 million) placed sixth and eighth with “The Book Thief” ($1.9 million) in between.
